MDMA or ecstasy (often abbreviated “E” or “X”) was first synthesized in 1912 by Merck chemist Anton Kollisch in an effort to create a substance that stopped out-of-control bleeding. By the late 1980’s, ecstasy, the “feel good drug” has hit the club scenes in Dallas, Texas. A year later, the hallucinogenic drug had moved overseas and by the mid 1990’s, was the drug of choice at raves (parties).
Crack is cheap, easy to get, and highly addictive. It emerged in the mid-1980’s as the popular drug of choice because it was easy and inexpensive to manufacture making it readily available and cheap. In a 1986 Gallup poll, Americans listed crack cocaine as the most serious problem in American society.
Alcohol is drank, enters the bloodstream through the stomach, and spreads throughout the body. Or so we thought. The newest craze, vodka eyeballing, requires pouring the shot directly into your eye. Containing 40% alcohol, the scaring that results permanently damages the eyeball and may lead to blindness.

When synthetic cannabis products first went on sale it was thought that they achieved an effect through a mixture of legal herbs. Laboratory analysis in 2008 showed this was not the case and that they in fact contained synthetic cannabinoids which act on the body in a similar way to cannabinoids naturally found in cannabis.
The sexting trend, the act of sending sexually explicit messages and nude photographs, primarily between mobile phones, was first mentioned in a 2005 article in the Sunday Telegraph Magazine. Sexting involving teenagers sending nude photographs of themselves to their friends led to a legal gray area in countries that have strict anti-child pornography laws. Some teenagers who have texted nude or suggestive photos of themselves to peers have been prosecuted with possession or distribution of child pornography.
It’s real name is salvia divinorum but your kids know it as serenity or fake weed. They can buy it over the counter and the store clerk, who understands perfectly well what the child will do with the product, will tell them that it’s legal and harmless. Part of that is true – as of 2010, it was legal in most states.
Kids have been bullying each other for many generations. With kids now conducting much of their social activities online, it only makes sense that bullying would carry over into their new communication medium. When bullying is conducted online, we call it cyber bullying (or cyberbullying). Cyberbullying can take many shapes and forms but the emotional damage it causes remains constant. Around the country there are many instances of suicides as a result of a victim being bullied, harassed, and humiliated online.

Mortal Journey is quite simply about trends; particularly dangerous, unusual, interesting, youth related trends, both current and historical.
